SERVICES
ORTHOPEDIC THERAPY

Our Orthopaedic Therapy program evaluates and manages a broad range of soft tissue and joint conditions for youth and adults, including conditions of the shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, ankle, foot, and spine. This comprehensive program specializes in acute and chronic injuries as well as muscle imbalances that cause chronic pain and overuse injuries.

Our goal is to correct the dysfunctions, assist with healing, and restore functional capabilities. To accomplish this goal we use a combined approach of functional, skilled exercise, manual therapy, and balance training.

MANUAL THERAPY

Manual therapy is a crucial part of the healing process.  Manual therapy can consist of manual stretching of tightened muscles, myofascial release of tightened fascia, as well as light to deep tissue massage to relax tightened muscles.  When combined with exercise, progress is accellerated by providing pain relief and mobility to the affected area.

AQUATIC THERAPY

Aquatic Therapy is critical when limited weight bearing for joints is necessary. Aquatic therapy also aids in reducing swelling in joints.  Aquatic therapy may also be used whenever gravity should be eliminated, including orthopaedic injuries, neurological dysfunctions, spine therapy, gait training, or balance training.

Aquatic Therapy provides:

  • Decreased weight bearing on joints of the ankle, knee, hip and spine
  • Increased circulation
  • Muscle strengthening without joint stress using water resistance
  • Early weight bearing after surgery
  • Aid with pain management
  • Decreased compression in the spine
  • Buoyancy assisted exercises to assist with range of motion
  • Resistance training against jets to increase strengthening

NEUROLOGICAL THERAPY

If you are suffering from a stroke, multiple sclerosis, lyme disease, or spinal cord injury Premiere Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine will create individualized programs to meet your needs.

Our therapists will aggressively pursue treatment programs that will improve motor recruitment, decrease spasticity and improve functioniong.

Recent studies have shown that neurological conditions can continue to show improvement for years after the injury. It is therefore never too late to increase functioning.

Our facility uses Body Weight Supported Therapy and Forced Use Training using Elliptical machines and LiteGait harness systems to recruit normal movement patterns and increase motor planning to assist with gait retraining and balance strategies.

GAIT ASSISTED NEUROLOGICAL RECOVERY

Gait Assisted Neurological Recovery, is an advanced program utilizing a hoist/harness system to stabilize a patient over a treadmill or elliptical machine allowing the therapist to concentrate on assisting the normal gait and movement patterns of the lower extremities.

This type of therapy can assist any patients that have had gait disturbances due to MS, Stroke, ALS, Lyme Disease or any other neurological disease that has affected gait.

INTENSIVE BALANCE TRAINING

Intensive Balance Training is a balance program that has three components.  Endurance, strength and balance/coordination.  The typical program lasts 8 - 12 weeks depending on the severity of the injury to the leg, spine, neurological system or inner ear.

The program was developed through intensive research from the AutoAmbulator training and utilizes forced use if needed, strength and control of the bodies center of gravity, and then control of that center of gravity with balance disturbances.

With the video game industries development of the Wii, balance platform training in a dynamic fun environment has also been added to this program.  This allows the body to perform weight shifts and control over the bodies center of gravity by using reactions versus planned movements.  This supports the bodies natural responses to balance versus planning out movements specifically.

This system combined with weight training and endurance help people become more active again following balance impairments.
